The Acer palmatum, or Japanese maple, is a deciduous shrub distinguished by its unique red foliage in spring. The spring colors of the leaves are so beautiful that they rival most flowers. The bright red foliage of the Acer palmatum turns dark pink to bluish-green in summer and transitions to beautiful shades of red and orange in autumn. 'Beni Maiko' is considered more brilliant in color than most maples.
