The Satsuki azalea usually blooms in the month of May. Although the blooming period can last about two weeks, the tree is usually at its most beautiful for about five days. At the end of the bloom it is important to carefully remove the spent flowers and prepare the tree for the next blooming season.

The azalea is evergreen, but in winter and after blooming the leaves may lightly discolour to yellow or brown, as blooming demands a lot of energy from the tree.
